Confidence. It can feel like climbing a mountain. Your climbing slowly at first, perfecting your footwork and hand grasp. You start going a little faster as you get more sure of yourself and then.... you slip. Fear takes over. Maybe you can't climb to the top. Maybe your not a good enough climber. But that harness keeps you firmly in place. You can let fear take over and get lowered down the mountain back to safety. Or you get your hand grip back and continue your journey up the mountain. That's how confidence works. You are going to have times you struggle, times people tell you are not good enough, times you fail, times you just want to give up. So do you stay on the ground and never try again. Or do you keep trying until you get to the top. But even when you get to the top. It won't all be perfect. There will always be more mountains to climb. But you do get better at climbing the more you do it!
Same with confidence. Now I won't say fake it till you make it. But I would say work for it and it will get easier to have.
I tell my clients, never stand in front of the mirror for more than 15 seconds. Girl. Take a good look. Look and make sure you don't have any food in your teeth, make sure there is nothing on your face, and that your clothes are not tucked into your undies, etc. But do not stand there picking your body apart. Do not stand there feeling like nothing you do will ever get you to the top. That person staring back at you in the mirror has been through a lot and is still there staring back at you. Yes, maybe with a few more wrinkles and grey hairs. But that person has climbed many mountains. You have the scars to prove it! That alone should make you confident. You have faced things that could have broke you. Maybe they did break you and you had to glue yourself back together and keep going. Be confident that you can keep going. That you can get the job, lose the weight, be loved, be stronger, feel comfortable in your skin. Because you can. You may need a little help and that's where health coaching comes in!
